The Power of the Pause: Why Rest Is Part of the Work

The Power of the Pause: Why Rest Is Part of the Work

Ciao Bella,

Let’s talk about something many of us struggle with — especially as high-achieving women navigating corporate pressure, family responsibilities, and community commitments: the pause.

You know what I mean. That season where life tells you to slow down — or completely stop.
And if you’re anything like me, it doesn’t come easy.

When The Bella Network went quiet

It wasn’t because the vision faded. It was because life got loud.
I was grieving. I was caregiving. I was trying to hold space for everything and everyone — including myself.

At first, I felt guilt for stepping away. But over time, I learned something sacred:

Rest is not retreat. It’s recalibration.

In a society that tells Black women we must always be doing, proving, giving — pausing can feel like rebellion. But here’s the truth: some of our greatest breakthroughs come when we finally stop moving long enough to breathe, reflect, and realign.

During that pause, I watched Bella Women like you carry on — making waves in your industries, launching businesses, mentoring others, and healing from so much. I also watched as DEI initiatives lost steam, promotions stalled, and the conversations around equity got quieter.

But now, I’m clearer than ever: our rest was not wasted. It was preparation.

As we plan our relaunch this July, I want you to know this:

  • You are not behind.
  • You are not forgotten.
  • You are exactly where you need to be — and Bella, you are not alone.

Let’s honor what the pause taught us. Let’s use that wisdom to move differently, more intentionally, and more powerfully.

Because when rested women rise, we change everything. ✨

Your turn:
What did your own pause teach you? Let us know on Instagram @thebellanetwork — I’d love to feature a few reflections as we count down to our July gathering.

With deep gratitude from one Bella to another,
